Evaluation of Research

tools for comparing and evaluating research publications and publishing channels
There are several levels and various ways of evaluating research. In order for researchers to decide which publishing channels to use, they need tools enabling them to compare the impact that a publication can expect to have in various publishing channels.

Using measures such as citation analysis, one can evaluate how various publications, researchers or research teams have been cited by others. This allows the number of citations for a certain publication to become a way of generating a bibliometrics-based picture of potential relations between impact and a publication and author, etc.

Bibliometric cloud

Higher education institutions often want to be able to evaluate their own research in comparison to that of other institutions, in order to increase understanding and communication about specific and outstanding research environments. This can also be achieved to a certain extent using bibliometrics.

As a researcher at the Faculty of Social Sciences, you can get help from the library staff in navigating the tools and services offered by LUB, such as how various citation analysis tools work and how to interpret their results.
